What’s a Bee to Me?

A Bee flies approximately 10 to 15 miles per hour and visits about 50—100 flowers in each pollination trip. And at this speed, these little guys support $15 billion in U.S. agricultural crops each year. So when we say that the bees are dying, we’re not worried about a lack of honey. We’re talking about one-third of our food supply. And when we’re saying they’re dying, we’re not talking about a few dead bugs. In recent years, honeybee populations across the continent have plummeted by as much as 70 percent.

Now here’s the scary part. No one knows why they are dying.

But at B2Bee, we’re not going to sit here wringing our hands. We’re going to save them. And we’re going to do it one quarter at a time. It’s going to take research to figure out what’s killing them off, and research takes money. So for every payment B2Bee receives, every single month, we’ll donate 25 cents to the bees. Which means that whenever someone chooses B2Bee to help support their business, they’ll also be choosing to help the bees. And helping the bees, really helps us all.

  • Bee Theories

  • Pesticides

Many bee keepers believe that a new form of pesticides and herbicides are largely to blame. They believe that it's weakening their immune systems to the point that entire hives are simply disappearing.
  • Cell Phones

Another theory is that cell phones may be to blame. Bees have some of the most complex and impressive abilities to navigate in nature. Being able to not only go miles from the hive and back without getting lost, but also being able to tell other bees how to get there. It's believed that wireless communication towers and the increased radiation given off by such devices may interfere with bees' ability to get home.
  • Global Warming

Biologists also wonder if global warming is exaggerating the growth rates of pathogens such as the mites, viruses and fungi that are known to take their toll on bee colonies. Causing some bee keepers to have lost up to 90% of their hives.
